About this site

whai.ie publishes short, sourced articles on the history of women in Ireland and keeps a record of pages that the Women's History Association of Ireland published on this address between 2009 and 2013.

The site is independent. It is not run by, and does not speak for, the Women's History Association of Ireland, the Women's History Project or any of the people named in the archive. It does not take memberships, payments, conference registrations or prize entries.

How the articles are written

Articles are written in a neutral, third-person style and list the published sources they rely on, with preference for the Dictionary of Irish Biography, the Military Archives' pension and witness collections, the National Library and National Archives of Ireland, the Irish Statute Book and the records of the Houses of the Oireachtas, together with standard works by historians of Irish women.

The archive

Archived pages keep the substance of the original text. Email addresses, forms, payment details and attachments have been left out, and each page carries a note giving the period it comes from. See the archive index.
